Elena Yu, Ph.D.

Elena Yu, Ph.D. is Professor of Epidemiology at the Graduate School of Public Health, San Diego State University, San Diego, California. She received her Ph.D. in Sociology and also holds a second Master's degree in Public Health. She has received awards for teaching epidemiology, mentoring minority students, and also for services to community organizations. She has served as a pro bono consultant to culturally diverse community-based organizations and social service agencies. She has also served as a consultant to the National Institutes of Health and the National Institute of Mental Health, and has worked in the Division of Epidemiology and Analysis at the National Center for Health Statistics. Raised in a multi-cultural environment, Elena Yu learned to speak several languages and is keenly aware of cultural and linguistic issues in instrument development. Her areas of research interest are methods, minority health, and aging. She has published more than 100 papers.
