Stephanie Baker, PhD, co-chair of the 30th Annual Minority Health Conference (2009), will graduate in May 2013 from the Health Behavior Department at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health. Her research interests include understanding how context shapes health disparities.
Stephanie's dissertation research uses a stress-coping behavior paradigm to look at the influence of the school racial climate on racial disparities in adolescent sedentary behavior. She also has an extensive teaching record on related topics including health disparities, social determinants of health, and the health effects of social policies. Stephanie is committed to diversifying the public health workforce and actively participates in the School's outreach efforts through the Office of Student Affairs.
