Janine Latus, Carolina Alumni Review, September/October 2026, pp30-31. "Nabarun Dasgupta '13 (PhD) calls himself a streetdrug scientist, although the technical term is "pharmacoepidemiologist" – "10 syllables that mean I study the effect of molecules in bodies," he said. Others, though, call him a MacArthur genius, because he won recognition from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation for his work as a senior scientist at UNC's Injury Prevention Research Center, where he analyzes street drugs and finds patterns that can protect people from dying of overdoses. He began training for it well before he knew it would be his life's work."
