On Saturday, March 16, 1 PM, a Meeting for Worship with Attention to Celebrating the Life of Bill Jenkins will be held at the Chapel Hill Friends (Quaker) Meeting. Bill attended our meeting for 5-6 years; he was a member of the Atlanta Friends Meeting. In that short time period, most people experienced Bill with an ongoing twinkle in his eye, an open and welcoming face, and as Co-Clerk of the Peace and Justice Committee. Both inside and outside CHFM, Bill was “an extraordinary leader in public health and a lifelong advocate for addressing racism in our society and eliminating health disparities.”
Our address is 531 Raleigh Rd. adjacent to the UNC campus. Our Meetinghouse is being renovated, therefore we will meet in the multipurpose room of our schoolhouse. The schoolhouse is at the same address and probably 30 feet away from the Meetinghouse. We do have a parking lot, but if it’s already full, please park in the free (on Saturdays) UNC lot next door. To support the community of Bill‘s friends, there will be finger food at the end of worship.
Please join us to celebrate Bill and remember how he touched each of our lives.

Worship After the Manner of Friends
For Friends (Quakers), a Memorial Meeting for Worship, an extended period of silence is a time of prayer, thanksgiving, remembering, and celebrating. At times an individual may be moved to speak, to offer a message that has come out of this silence. Most of the messages will relate to our memories of of Bill and our celebration of his life. Neither laughter nor tears are out of place. Reflections, poetry, singing, and stories may all be part of the fabric of memory we weave together. All present are free to speak, but all messages should be brief. Please stand and speak loudly and clearly so you may be heard by all. Please leave ample pauses between speakers so that we may contemplate fully the import and meaning of your message.
In peace,
