Minority Public Health Institute

Registration Procedures

Who May Register?

Registration is open to researchers, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and professionals in federal and local agencies and community organizations.

Participants will be able to register for graduate credit, noncredit, or continuing education credit (CEU) in biostatistics.

Graduate Course Credit Information

The course has been evaluated with respect to its equivalency to the curriculum of University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. One graduate credit hour in biostatistics has been assigned to the course. Acceptance of the course for credit or substitution for similar courses offered by any institution is dependent upon the policy of that institution.

Certificate of Participation

A certificate of participation will be issued to those registering for non-credit, as well as to those registering for credit. Non-credit participants are expected to complete all course exercises.

Application Procedures

The application form must be completed in its entirety and countersigned, if appropriate, by the applicant's department head or supervisor. It must be indicated on the application whether or not the course is to be taken for graduate credit. If graduate credit is requested, a photocopy of proof of last degree conferred must be included with the application. Failure to do this will delay the review of the application and may jeopardize the applicant's acceptance into the course. The application form must be accompanied by a $50 deposit (check) payable to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Department of Biostatistics. For those not accepted or those who cancel, by June 1, 1995 the deposit will be returned. For accepted applicants, the deposit fee will be credited toward their tuition account.

Participants financed by federal or state agencies should arrange to provide verifying documents with submission of their applications. All registrants should be prepared to provide payment to the University of North Carolina for the balance of their tuition in U.S. dollars on the day of final registration. Checks, cash, or money orders will be accepted.

Application Deadline

Prospective registrants are urged to complete the application as soon as possible. Enrollment is limited to a maximum of 75 participants. Acceptance will be based on criteria which take into account research interests, commitment to public health, and other factors that ensure a diverse class. Applications must be received by April 15, 1995. Applicants not admitted will be placed on a waiting list and notified if space becomes available.

Final Registration

Registration will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 18 at the University of North Carolina Kenan Center. Registration will be followed by an opening session and reception at 7:00 p.m. All participants are urged to make their travel plans so that they arrive in time to register and attend the opening session.

Lodging and Meals

Lodging will be available, on campus as well as off campus. Participants and faculty who elect to stay on campus will be housed in double occupancy rooms at the Old East Dormitory, a newly renovated historic building that is a pleasant walk from the School of Public Health and near downtown Chapel Hill.
